Asbestos Abatement

According to the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, property owners that wish to remove asbestos from their property on their own are exempt from requesting special approval to remove asbestos from their dwelling. Contractors for hire are required to have asbestos certification to abate asbestos.

While homeowners are exempt from special approval, we strongly recommend that disposable protective clothing be worn during the removal and disposal of asbestos. This may include gloves, masks and Tyvek suits that should be disposed of.

The Landfill accepts friable and non-friable asbestos. Some examples of asbestos containing material may include slate siding, floor tile, ceiling tile, roof tile, firewall, and insulation. If a material is even suspected to contain asbestos, it is treated as if it does.

All Asbestos Containing Material to be transported to the Landfill for disposal must be wrapped twice with 6 mil plastic. This can be purchased at a hardware store. It is usually easier to box the asbestos in cardboard boxes, then wrap the boxes twice with the plastic, and seal with duct tape.

An appointment for asbestos disposal must be made with at least twenty-four hours notice. This is critical, as we must close the Landfill to other traffic while asbestos is being buried. WE must also have an Asbestos Certified Associate on site, and have appropriate weather conditions for disposal.

A Special Waste Load Manifest must be completed for each load of asbestos transported. Asbestos will be subjected to the current Special Waste fee.
